Choosing the right path for your health is important. Here are answers to common questions that will help you decide if Posture Alignment Therapy is right for you.

Posture Therapy is the art and science of realigning the 8 major load joints (shoulders, hips, knees, and ankles). When these load joints are back in their proper positions we know that the correct muscles are doing their jobs- holding the skeleton in perfect alignment. The result is less pain and improved everyday performance and athletic performance.

Pete Egoscue has been perfecting the Egoscue Method since 1971. Egoscue trained therapists work with people from all walks of life and any age, including athletes, adults and children.

Posture alignment therapists treat the entire body as a unit, aligning the 8 major load joints. Physical therapists focus on the site of the pain, working on one joint at a time.

Absolutely! Many of the exercises prescribed to people who are getting ready for joint replacement surgery are right out of our playbook. We encourage people to come in before undergoing joint replacement surgery because we can help strengthen the other 7 load joints that will support the new joint as it heals.

People who have recently had a joint replacement surgery and have completed all their required physical therapy treatments will benefit from working with us to teach the load joints to work together again.

All clients are required to start with 2 visits, in order to see how your body responds to this therapy. Almost every client reports less pain and more mobility after the very first visit.

Once we are certain that you are on the right path, we continue with a minimum of 6 more visits.

That depends on the extent of the dysfunction in your joints and your daily commitment to your exercise menu.

The number of visits you will need depends on how ingrained your dysfunctional movement patterns are, your commitment to showing up every week without fail, and your commitment to doing your exercises every day between visits.

During every appointment we will be taking photos and videos so that we can determine where your body is out of alignment. We need to be able to see your 8 major joints in action.

Therefore, for women, we require an exercise bra and shorts or light-colored, loose pants that can be pulled up over the knees. Women can substitute a very tight shirt in a light color if you are not comfortable having photos taken in a sports bra.

For men, we require shorts and prefer shirts off for photos and videos. You can substitute a right fitting shirt in a light color if you are not comfortable having photos taken without a shirt.

Everyone should wear or bring athletic shoes.

Depending on the exercises that are prescribed for you, you may need to purchase basic items such as a yoga strap, yoga blocks,  or a stool. Don’t worry- we are masters at improvising if you can’t afford specialized equipment.

For most activities, we will encourage you to continue to do the fitness activities that keep you fit and fill your life with joy. However, we will ask that you keep us informed of all of the exercise modalities that you are involved in.

It is important that you to stick with the exercises that we prescribe exclusively during the program. In some cases, we may ask that you refrain from activities such as Pilates, yoga, weight training or other activities that can reduce the effectiveness of your exercise menu. If you do not disclose your activities or continue with exercises that decrease the effectiveness of your menu, we cannot guarantee your results.

You might be surprised at how often we hear this! Yes, you may have to prepare a space in your home- including a wall space- to properly perform all of your exercises.

There are times when an exercise against the wall is going to be the most effective way to reduce rotation or drop that elevated hip,  so we encourage all of our clients to think very carefully about their priorities. You might be frustrated at having to take a picture off of the wall to do one or more of your exercises, but that frustration will vanish when you are finally pain free!
